A personal video recorder or PVR is typically an interactive TV recording electronic device that is not necessarily kept on top of the television set. Personal video recorders come with various names including- digital personal video recorder (DVR), personal video station (PTR), personal TV receiver (PTR) and hard disk recorder (HDR).

Like the well known VCR, a PVR has the ability to record and play back television programs, but, unlike the VCR, it can store the programs in digital instead of in an analog form. However, similar to VCRs, personal video recorders provide a facility to pause, rewind, stop, or fast-forward any recorded program. Since the PVR can very well record a program and replay it almost, with a slight time lag, live programs can be converted into recorded programs and appear as though they were recorded programs. Other features of a personal video recorder include- indexing, time marking and non-linear editing. The PVR also encodes an incoming video data stream as MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 and stores it in a hard disk installed within a device that looks very much similar to VCR.

If you require a video recorder for personal use then you can definitely look up to reputable online stores to grab the best deals.
